Boosting your Self-Esteem to be Healthy

Nowadays it is common to see different health programs to improve people health preventing diseases and promoting health many of them are focused on adopting healthy lifestyles by knowledge acquisition to enhance their personal attitudes and finally to change risk behaviors to avoid diseases, but, the reason that some health programs are not enough effective at the practice is why people will not participate in any initiative if first they are not persuaded about their own worth even when the health program could be an extraordinary help to be healthy at the end.


The most important initiative, even the most important strategy to be healthy is the prevention, there is a good amount of literature that is focused on the prevention of risk behaviors to delay diseases or simply to avoid their onset, however, when we analyze possible causes why a person does not adhere to a health program we can find that many of them have deep emotional issues that are related to their low self-esteem and lost confidence due to strong battles for their health in a dense routine of stressful situations.


Analyzing possible cases that can explain this important subject we can see for instance, that smokers are people that know that smoking is really harmful to the human body, that the probabilities to onset with a lung cancer are high in comparison with persons who are not smokers, even worse they know that their own family are in jeopardy as secondhand smokers every time they light on a cigarette or any kind of smoking device and even so more of them underestimate the risk and choose to keep smoking. The root of a behavior like that is nothing other than a low self-esteem due the individual is not able to get rid of his/her harmful habit, because they not know his/her own truly worth.


When people do not know what is their own worth, are vulnerable to perform activities and adopt harmful habits that can trigger negative consequences to their health impeding to take advantage of their potential. That is why the most expensive and elaborated health programs will not be able to produce a true behavior change on people at least that they change their focus and give more attention to the causality of health issues, that so as we have described those health issues that depend of human behavior almost always are related to low self-esteem.


Starting to persuade people about their own worth is not an easy assignment, in fact, we could say that people believe what they see work, but the truth is many of them have not stopped to really think in themselves, for that reason their risky behaviors do not represent a problem because they have nothing to lose.


Up to this point is very important to say, there are evidence-based initiatives that undoubtedly have proved that work, but the subject of this article is related to analyze the root of causality that is implied on the true behavior change, we have seen health programs that are obliged to take aggressive measures as traffic tickets, or driver license restrictions to decrease motor-vehicle crashes for not wearing seat belts, but how we are addressing the causality root for that behaviors, at the extent we can spend more time finding the truth behind of an unhealthy habit we can for sure to lead all our efforts to improve the individual self-esteem and help to change people health at the end.
